Coal-fired electricity indicated the lowest life cycle cost impact. Biomass-based alternatives resulted in lower environmental impact. Feedstock production was the major contributor to the total life cycle cost. The LCC of bioenergy is 22–87% lower than historical electricity generation cost. Environmental LCC is a valid method for economic sustainability assessment.
