M. galloprovincialis may switch between two types of functional responses depending on the diet. Rebounds of food availability and temperature on the growth performances of these harvested biomasses in natural environments have been modeled. An increase in the mechanistic ability to predict where and when organisms better exploit different types of food, at varying densities, may be particularly useful in the Integrated multi-trophic aquaculture (IMTA) context.
