A novel adenovirus tentatively named pigeon adenovirus 2 (PiAdV-2) was discovered. PiAdV-2 belongs to a new species within the genus Aviadenovirus. Two variants of PiAdV-2 were detected in pigeons. Approximately 20% of examined young and 13% of adult pigeon flocks harbored PiAdV-2. No correlation was found between young pigeon disease syndrome and aviadenoviruses.
