Carbon content of TiCN cermets is changed by presintering in N2-H2 atmospheres.

Melting temperatures decrease and the N2/H2 ratio increases.

Reduction of powder oxides is enhanced by Cr3C2 additions.

Reduction of powder oxides is also improved at higher N2/H2 ratios.

Precipitation of M7C3 carbide is better controlled at low C potentials.
