Progesterone attenuates experimental autoimmune encephalomyelitis (EAE) severity in mice. EAE mice showed altered mRNA levels of steroidogenic proteins in the spinal cord. Progesterone restores mRNA levels of neurosteroidogenic proteins and enzymes. Enhanced neurosteroidogenesis may reinforce the effects of exogenous progesterone.
