FTIR spectra of respiration inhibitor treated wheat mitochondria were collected. Spectra are clustered into clades consistent with treatment mode of inhibition. Significant differences were observed between differently treated FTIR spectra. FTIR provided greater resolving power than oxygen uptake protocol. FTIR is a suitable method for monitoring plant metabolic changes.
