Pure and Gd–Ti co-substituted samples were prepared by a facile sol–gel method.

Structural phase transition from R3c to Pbnm and then to View the MathML source was confirmed through Rietveld analysis.

Enhancement in net magnetization due to the cancellation of spiral spin cycloid.

An anomaly at the vicinity of Neel temperature (TN) was observed for all the samples.

Leakage current density has been reduced to 3–4 orders for the co-substituted samples.
