Drug treatments are poorly effective against core symptoms of autism. Ketogenic diets were tested in EL mice, a model of comorbid autism and epilepsy. Sociability was improved and repetitive behaviors were reduced in female mice. In males behavioral improvements were more limited. Metabolic therapy may be especially beneficial in comorbid autism and epilepsy.
