WO3 nanoplate arrays with enriched (200) and (002) facets were prepared.

A remarkably high photocurrent density of 3.7 mA cm–2 at 1.23 V vs. RHE under AM 1.5 G illumination was achieved.

Synergistic crystal facet engineering and structural control are critical for designing efficient PEC water splitting system.
