Silica AR coatings are prepared by a sol–gel dip-coating process using the sol containing H3PO4 as a template. The aging time of the sol has a significant effect on the transmittance of the coated glass. Over-sized pores larger than 100 nm in the silica coatings can act as scattering centers scattering visible light.
