Three captive adult African hedgehogs (Atelerix albiventris) were diagnosed with unilateral adrenocortical carcinoma based on gross pathology and histopathology. Two presented for necropsy with a history of anorexia, lethargy, and weight loss, and the other hedgehog was euthanized because of metastatic disease. Two of the patients had serosanguinous effusion and metastases to distant sites including the liver, peritoneum, spleen, and/or lung. One animal presented with concurrent mammary carcinoma. This is believed to be the first detailed description of adrenocortical carcinomas in African hedgehogs.
