In this cluster randomized controlled trial, chlorhexidine dispensers were introduced to a study group of Israeli Navy ships. The infectious disease burden was evaluated using electronic medical records and health questionnaires in the study and control groups. We found that implanting chlorhexidine dispensers was not associated with a decreased incidence of infectious disease. Hand colonization with bacteria was also not effected by chlorhexidine use.
