Growth and H2 photoproduction by Rhodobacter sphaeroides and effects of electromagnetic irradiation (EMI) were studied.

The effects of 51.8 GHz and 53 GHz EMI depended on the duration of irradiation.

Short exposure time (15 min) increased the bacterial growth rate and H2 photoproduction.

The extension of exposure up to 1 h showed opposite - the bactericidal effect of EMI.

F0F1-ATPase mediated the effects of EMI on H2 production.
