Brachytherapy (BT) is an essential component of radiation treatment of cervical cancer. Intracavitary (IC) BT often does not fully encompass the intended target. Interstitial (IS) brachytherapy provides access and better geometry for deep and complicated lesions. High dose rate (HDR) acts synergistically with interstitial implants to achieve optimal radiation dosimetry. Excellent long-term outcomes were achieved in advanced disease with HDR IS-BT.
