Fatigue strength of thin laser-hybrid welded full-scale deck structure

Unique full-scale fatigue tests of thin laser-hybrid welded panels were carried out. Initial distortion shapes were carefully measured, reported and used in analysis. In hot spot stress the small- and full-scale specimens have equal fatigue strength. Nominal stress method is unsuitable for thin plates with varying initial distortion. High fatigue strength is possible in full-scale structures if weld quality is high.
