Familial hemifacial spasm (HFS) can rarely develop before the age of 25. Neurovascular conflict underpins the etiology of HFS even in familial cases. How genetic susceptibility contributes to familial HFS pathogenesis is unknown. An autosomal dominant inheritance pattern with low penetrance is suspected.
