Chemical shifts of the 8 monomers in methylcellulose were assigned by NMR. Monomer mole fractions were determined from the 13C NMR spectral lineshapes. Substituent group interactions were characterized by chemical shift changes. Methyl- & carboxymethylcellulose differential substitution patterns were assigned.
