Lysozyme amyloidogenesis is inhibited by sub-micellar concentrations of DDM and TX-100. Detergent/protein ratio and timing of detergent addition are crucial for controlling the inhibition. Detergents bind specifically to the amyloidogenic segment of lysozyme. Detergents or their derivatives − promising strategy for affecting the progression of amyloidosis.
