Hg contents of certain coal samples at 800 °C and 900 °C differed considerably. A Hg release peak appeared between 660 and 900 °C in one typical coal type. Differences in Hg contents between 800 and 900 °C disappeared after treatment with HF. Hg combined with montmorillonite in this coal released completely at above 800 °C.
