rx is expressed in Drosophila mushroom body neuroblasts (MBNBs) and their cell lineages from embryonic to pupal stage. Rx promotes proliferation of MBNBs and their ganglion mother cells, independently of Tailless and Prospero. Rx positively regulates cell growth of MBNBs. Rx is required for survival of MBNBs and Kenyon cells.
