Comparison of TiO2 and ZnO nanoparticles for the improvement of consolidated wood with polyvinyl butyral against white rot

Antifungal properties of TiO2 and ZnO nanoparticles were assessed in polyvinyl butyral. The photocatalyst activity of TiO2 and ZnO nanoparticles were detected for creation of antifungal properties and protection against environmental factors in PVB consolidant.

Treated samples with 1% of nano-TiO2 and nano-ZnO in 5% PVB under darkness conditions did not show antifungal properties, but 2% of nanoparticles protected against the fungus in darkness conditions. There was an appropriate preservative properties of all treatments in light condition.

Increasing the amount of TiO2 nanoparticles in PVB cause yellowing in the consolidated wood with nanocomposite and should be avoided further nanoparticles. Combination of TiO2 and ZnO of nanoparticles showed the best result.
