I study the long-term impact of the 1994 Rwandan genocide on domestic violence. I find that the conflict increased spousal abuse and reduced decision-making power. Estimates are for women who married after 1994 relative to women who married before. Changes in local marriage market sex ratios were a significant mechanism.
