Microstructural evolution and mechanical properties of MgZnYZr alloy during friction stir processing

Transformation of I-phase to W-phase in friction stir processing is characterized. Increase of strength mainly results from fine grains and dispersed particles. Grain refinement and dispersed particles exert an active influence on ductility. Mg alloy with high strength and ductility is produced by friction stir processing.
