Second anode action of the filtering duct in a magnetically filtered cathodic vacuum arc discharge

It is demonstrated that the magnetic filtering duct can work as the second anode in a filtered cathodic vacuum arc discharge (FCVAD). Influences of the focusing magnetic field and duct positive bias on the arc discharge were studied. An equivalent circuit for the FCVAD is presented and used to simulate the arc behavior with the filtering duct working as second anode, and the simulated results agree well with experiment.
