Tau hyperphosphorylation in the brain of ob/ob mice is due to hypothermia: Importance of thermoregulation in linking diabetes and Alzheimer's disease

Type 2 diabetes is an important risk factor of Alzheimer's disease (AD). The ob/ob mouse model of Type 2 diabetes exhibit tau hyperphosphorylation in hippocampus. Hypothermia is the leading cause of tau hyperphosphorylation. Caffeine is associated with tau hyperphosphorylation by promoting deeper hypothermia. Impaired thermoregulation might be important in linking diabetes and AD.
