Embedment of silver into temperature- and pH-responsive microgel for the development of smart textiles with simultaneous moisture management and controlled antimicrobial activities
“Smart” stimuli responsive cotton fabric with dynamic controlled antimicrobial activity was developed. PNCS microgel was functionalized by in-situ synthesis of nanocrystals of AgCl or by direct incorporation of colloidal Ag into microgel suspension. In-situ synthesis reduced, while incorporation of colloidal Ag increased the PNCS microgels concentration on cotton fibers. Controlled release of Ag triggered by variation of pH and temperature was achieved. Excellent antibacterial activity was obtained.
