A novel wastewater and DOW co-management system for small communities is assessed. Configurations are proposed on the basis of waste collection and nutrient removal. Nutrient removal via nitrite fulfils the requirements for water reuse. Environmental issues in terms of climate change and eutrophication are identified. Separate waste collection coupled with N and P removal via nitrite is the best option.
