Propyl sulfonic-functionalized SBA-15 is highly active in sorbitol dehydration. High sulfonic acid loadings strongly promotes the intrinsic catalytic activity acid sites. Surface methylation reduces the affinity of sorbitol for the catalyst surface. Surface methylation promotes sorbitan dehydration, boosting the overall transformation.
