Cows had a short or no dry period with associated ration and group changes. We compared feeding, lying, and steps of cows with no versus a short dry period. Before calving, cows with no dry period had shorter feeding and lying times, and more steps. After calving, cows with no dry period had a higher feed intake and lay for longer.
