Effect of tillage system on durum wheat production and profitability varied according to preceding crop. Wheat with maize and sunflower as preceding crops was less affected by reduced tillage. Reduced tillage decreased input and machinery costs, but resulted in lower incomes. Alfalfa was the best preceding crop with conventional tillage since required ploughing to prevent its regrowth. Reduced tillage was a good option under maize and sunflower as preceding crops.
