Plantago polysaccharide was investigated as novel corrosion inhibitor for carbon steel in 1 M HCl. Plantago polysaccharide is environmentally benign and yields good inhibition efficiencies. Methods used for investigation are gravimetric, electrochemical, AFM and SEM-EDX. Quantum chemical, UV–vis and FTIR analysis further explain the adsorption process of AX. Adsorption of Plantago polysachcharide was mixed-type, predominantly chemical in nature.
