Identification and functional characterizations of serpin8, a potential prophenoloxidase-activating protease inhibitor in Pacific white shrimp, Litopenaeus vannamei

A novel serpin (named Lvserpin8) was identified from the Pacific white shrimp, Litopenaeus vannamei. Lvserpin8 had the highest expressional level in hepatopancreas and was significantly up-regulated upon bacterial infection. Suppression of Lvserpin8 increased the transcripts of LvPPAE2 and cumulative mortality. rLvserpin8 displayed inhibition roles on protease activity, and prophenoloxidase activation.
