FOC performance depends on salt diffusion and organic deposition. Alkane rather than inorganic fouling plays a significant role in membrane fouling. Fouling is inefficiently removed by simple hydraulic washing with high flow rate. Osmotic backwash performs best to enhance cleaning and concentration efficiency. CTA-HM membranes outperform the commercial CTA-HTI membranes.
