Reflections on interdisciplinary collaborations to study social robotics are provided from an experimental psychological viewpoint. The value of an experimental approach to explore psychological mechanisms underlying human–human and human–machine interaction is outlined. The importance of valid measurement in social robotics is discussed. This is illustrated by means of a best-practice example from the author’s laboratory.
