Nanostructured Pt-CeO2 thin catalyst films were grown on plasma etched and non-etched carbon substrates by pulsed laser deposition. The surface composition of the nanostructured Pt-CeO2 films was investigated by surface analysis techniques. The effect of film roughening was separated from the effect of platinum-ceria atomic interactions.
