Organic/inorganic hybrid nanolaminates were prepared by Layer-by-Layer assembly.

Highly ordered layered structures were revealed by X-ray reflectivity measurements.

The interfacial adhesion was enhanced by the ultrathin bi-functional molecules.

Fracture toughness was improved up to two orders of magnitude comparing to controls.
