A commercially available enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay for equine interleukin (IL)-1β is validated for use with modifications. Plasma concentrations of IL1β increase 1 hour after consumption of a meal high in starch and sugar. Plasma concentrations of IL1β are lower when using an equine-specific antibody than when using a canine antibody.
