A technique based on active interrogation with a AmLi source is proposed and demonstrated to assess uranium-235 enrichment.
It uses real-time pulse-shape discrimination with organic scintillators in small samples of triuranium octoxide.
It is demonstrated with 200 g samples spanning enrichment from depleted in uranium-235 (0.31% wt.) to 4.5% wt.
It is robust to the scattering of neutrons from the source by the sample and yields competitive levels of sensitivity.
