A thin layer of moisture on the surface of a catalyst can improve the efficiency of a fuel cell, thanks to a reaction that resembles a kind of ‘proton pinball’. The newly reported research was coordinated by materials scientists at the Istituto Officina dei Materiali interdisciplinary research centre of the Italian National Research Council (CNR-IOM) in Trieste.
