Bog iron ores are sedimentological ores used for prehistoric iron smelting. For a characterization we examined the mineralogical and elemental composition. Bog iron ores show varying qualities represented by iron and silicon contents. The elemental composition of bog iron ores shows a spatial variability. Indicators suggest favorable local conditions for prehistoric iron smelting.
