We examine changes in Si concentration in plant and soil samples from South Niger.

Phytoliths/Amorphous Si in grass m>P. pedicellatumm> increases with decreasing AET/PET.

Phytoliths/Amorphous Si in soils increases with increasing NPP in the more humid south.

Climate and soil ASi influence plant traits and Si uptake of this C4 tropical grass.

Increased evapotranspiration increases silicification of bulliform cells.
