The relation between perceived and actual gait ability was examined in older adults. The actual ability to step inside a path was affected by path width, not by speed. Perceived and actual minimal path width did not match in most older adults. Differences between perceived and actual gait ability reflect older adults’ judgment. The degree of misjudgment was not related to actual gait ability.
