DAT and NET control motor activity, attention, mood swings, and stress induced anxiety, thus becoming targets for therapeutic intervention. Four functional variants in DAT and NET were analyzed for association with Attention-Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder associated traits in Family-based analysis exhibited statistically significant preferential transmission of gene variants. Association of gene variants with behavioral problems and co-morbid disorders were also observed. Data obtained for the first time evidenced association of DAT and NET gene variants with phenotypic traits and co-morbidity of Indian ADHD probands.
