Mega-study of reading aloud disyllabic nonwords in English. Stress assignment, pronunciation variability, and naming latencies are analyzed. Opposing theoretical accounts of disyllabic reading are evaluated. Data provide support for a statistical-learning approach to disyllabic reading. First normative nonword corpus for British English and largest database of its kind.
