A novel deep red emitting Mg7Ga2GeO12:Mn4+ phosphor was developed.
Mn4+ replaces Ga3+ site in GaO6 polyhedra, leading to efficient emission of Mn4+.
It shows bright emissions in 600–750 nm and broad excitation at around 420 nm.
It shows a good thermal stability (78% at 250 °C of the initial intensity).
Mg7Ga2GeO12:Mn4+ is a potential red phosphor for application in LEDs.
