Plate-like LiMnPO4 has been prepared by a facile solvothermal route.

A tentative reaction mechanism is proposed based on the time dependent trials.

The formation of LiMnPO4 is accelerated by increasing the reaction temperature.

The proposed mechanism is further supported by the studies of reactant mole ratio.

The LiMnPO4 material exhibits good cycling performance and stable structure.
