Graphene oxide coated sulfur hollow spheres is synthesized via a two-step solution method.

The hollow S@GO composite possesses a higher sulfur loading of 92 wt%.

GO shell of the composite can confine dissolution and diffusion of polysulfides.

The hollow structure promises a slight volume expansion during the charge cycling.
