Microstructured Al2O3 was fabricated by epitaxial growth of Al4B2O9 whiskers in air.

The microstructure of the rough surfaces was characterized in detail.

The wetting of the whisker-coated surfaces by Ag-36.7Cu-8.0Ti at.% alloy was studied.

A whisker-interconnected region was formed between Al2O3 and the alloy after wetting.
