A facile label-free colorimetric assay was developed for the detection of glutathione using MnO2 nanosheets. Highly sensitive and selective detection of glutathione was realized by mornitoring the color variation with bare eyes and UV–vis spectroscopy, respectively. This assay has also been successfully applied to the determination of glutathione in biological fluids with satisfactory results. This simple, rapid and cost-effective glutathoine assay does not need any complex labeling procedures.
