Microstructure and hydrogen storage properties of Mg-Ni-Ce alloys with a long-period stacking ordered phase

A new long-period stacking ordered phase is observed in Mg-Ni-Ce ternary alloy. Nanocrystals with grain size in the range of 3–5 nm are observed after ball milling. CeH2.73 reacts with oxygen spontaneously to form CeO2 during air exposure. Anti-oxidation properties of Mg-based alloys are improved with the addition of Ce.
